Ben Merrick was not raised by wolves.

Granted, there aren’t any wolves in Iowa. It’s possible he was raised by a family of canny opossums.

Ben’s childhood was defined by the stories he read and the worlds he made on paper. Now that the impulsively creative child has become an impulsively creative adult, writing books is the natural outlet. He independently published his first adult fantasy book, Where the Valley Meets the Sky, in 2021. He published the sequel, Where the River Goes, in June of 2023.

Ben Merrick attended the University of Iowa and earned his BA in English Literature and Certification in Secondary Education in 2016. He taught various high school courses for seven years, and by August of 2025, he’ll have earned his Master’s degree in Professional and Creative Writing from North Central College.

When Ben isn’t writing, he’s running a D&D campaign, writing and recording music, working in the woodshop, or spending time with his wife and their weird rescue dogs.
